Dear Friend,
It is a privilege to invite you to join U.S. Missions in 30 days of guided prayer for our nation. From August 1 through August 30, I urge you to dedicate time to intercede for unity, healing, deliverance, freedom, and revival in the United States, as outlined in this guide.
Now more than ever, the United States needs the transformative power of Christ. As believers, we cannot grow weary in our responsibility to pray for our country and its inhabitants. Scripture assures us in 1 John 5:14, “If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
Thank you for joining in this exciting effort of concerted prayer.
Pray for Unity
August 1 – unity in the Church. Christianity Today predicted that “Christian America” will soon be more divided than ever before. Is the Church’s priority reaching the lost or dogma? “For we are all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body” (1 Corinthians 12:13). We must focus on our shared purpose to bring the lost to Christ.
August 2 – unity despite differing perspectives. In a world where everyone yells their opinion and no one listens, we need a common source of harmony. The Bible shows us a house divided cannot stand (Matthew 12:25). Rather than focusing on our differences, let us strive to be better representatives of Christ, operating in love.
August 3 – unity in local fellowships. The local church is the beacon of hope for the community. It’s important that we foster a unified, welcoming spirit of love and support for one another, as praised in Psalm 133:1. Allow your church to become a place of refuge and peace.
August 4 – unity in our communities. It is in local communities that we can truly demonstrate loving our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:39). Find out the needs in the community surrounding your church, and work to meet those needs. Become the vessel God can use to answer prayers.
August 5 – unity in the family. The nuclear family has undergone tremendous change in recent decades. Families are broken, even among Christians. In Malachi 4:6, God promises to turn the hearts of parents to their children and the hearts of children to their parents. Pray for restoration and wholeness in families.
Pray for Healing
August 6 – healing in minds and emotions. Loneliness is an epidemic in the U.S., and the topic of mental health can lead to condemnation and shame. As Psalm 34:18 says, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Pray for understanding and compassion within the Church and proper treatment.
August 7 – healing in our bodies. Heart disease, cancer,
and strokes are among the leading causes of death in our country. Many Americans suffer chronic illness and injuries. Remember when we pray that Jesus also died and was resurrected for our physical healing (Isaiah 53:5).
August 8 – healing between people groups. Racial divides in America are stark, and its roots are longstanding. Our nation needs healing of deep wounds from the past. It is important that we have the courage to begin open conversations and work hard to build relationships and become one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28).
August 9 – healing in our spirits. Hebrews 12:15 speaks of a root of bitterness that can cause destruction. Many people, even believers, are wounded in spirit and allow developing bitterness to overtake their thoughts and actions. Pray for deep healing of each hurting American’s spirit.
August 10 – healing in the perception of our lives. God intends for us to be good stewards of the blessings we have received (1 Peter 4:10). We are to care for our bodies through a healthy lifestyle, be wise with His financial provision, and tend to the earth as caretakers. Pray for a desire to honor God through our actions toward what He has given us.
Pray for Deliverance
August 11 – deliverance from addiction. Half of Americans over age 12 say they’ve used illegal substances. Over three-quarters of Christian men under age 50 view pornography on a regular basis. Americans need deliverance from highly addictive behaviors (Psalm 50:15).
August 12 – deliverance from polarization. Romans 12:18 instructs us, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” We must focus on our shared humanity and engage with people through love, promoting peace with everyone.
August 13 – deliverance from attacks on the Truth. Belief in moral absolutes has declined, and attacks on our fundamental beliefs come from all sides, including from within the Church itself (2 Timothy 4:3–4). Pray that our focus on the Word is strong and that our faith in Christ remains unwavering.
August 14 – deliverance from hopelessness. “Deaths of despair” is an expression used by doctors and sociologists to describe the last decade’s increase in deaths by suicide, alcohol poisoning, and drug overdoses. Many Americans feel hopeless. Pray for their salvation and deliverance, as modeled in Romans 15:13.
August 15 – deliverance from evil. The apostle Peter warned us, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Pray that Christians in the United States have the spiritual discernment and strength to run from places and activities that may compromise them.
Pray for Freedom
August 16 – freedom from mental and emotional pain. Philippians 4:6–9 reminds us to make our requests known and God will guard our hearts and minds. Many people need to let go of their unseen pain and instead, embrace God’s peace.
August 17 – freedom from bondage to depression, pornography, gambling, immorality, and all forms of compulsive behavior. Jesus said, “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). He intends for us to live in freedom from any and all entrapments.
August 18 – freedom from addiction to and improper use of social media. Pray that people will guard their hearts against the negative influences of social media (Proverbs 4:23) and replace it with real and godly relationships.
August 19 – freedom from condemnation (Romans 8:1). Guilt and shame afflict many, often leading to negative outcomes. Jesus paid the price for our sins, and His sacrifice frees us. Pray that more people will discover this truth and be set free.
August 20 – freedom from fear. Many people fear the future. The top fears in 2023 included fear of economic collapse or personal financial ruin, fear of losing a loved one, and fear of a terrorist or nuclear attack. The Bible promises, “perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18). May we be set free from our fears.
Pray for Revival
August 21 – revival in churches. Revival begins in local fellowships, and as the Spirit moves, influence expands from the church to the community and beyond. To make an impact across the United States, believers must seek this move of the Spirit in local churches (Jeremiah 29:13).
August 22 – revival in schools and colleges. As students experience the life-transforming power of Jesus, may the Holy Spirit move through the next generation, raising up Christian leaders who will impact the nation for decades to come (Psalm 71:17).
August 23 – revival in our homes. It’s time for godly moms, dads and heads of households to seek God and lead their families to Christ through the instruction of the Lord
(Eph. 6:4). Pray for renewed hearts, homes and families.
August 24 – revival that goes beyond our borders (Deuteronomy 10:19). The U.S. receives millions of immigrants and travelers each year. May they encounter the Holy Spirit firsthand and share their experience with their families back home, wherever that may be.
August 25 – revival in our hearts. May we share in the prayer of Psalm 85:6–7: “Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, LORD, and grant us your salvation.” Pray for revival in your own heart, and for salvation and revival in the hearts of all those in the U.S.
Pray for America
August 26 – America to be a truly Christian nation (2 Chronicles 7:14). Too many hearts are far from God and lack personal relationship with Him. May every soul in this nation find its hope in Jesus.
August 27 – America to be a representation of Christ. May it become a place for freedom, peace, and prosperity, exalted because of its righteousness (Proverbs 14:34) that stands firm upon its faith in God.
August 28 – America to be a compassionate nation (Ephesians 4:32). Jesus showed His partiality for the last, the lost, the least, and the little. May we protect the helpless, call sinners to repentance, empower the less fortunate, welcome strangers, and in all ways, imitate Jesus.
August 29 – America to be a godly nation. 1 Peter 2:9 declares, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” May the United States be a beacon of His wonderful light.
August 30 – America to be a blessed nation! “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,” says Psalm 33:12. May ours be a people whose God is the Lord so we may be blessed in Him, in turn blessing others.
